Inscription reads;
Sacred to the memory of Robert Medforth who departed this life the 16th of September 1827 aged 72 years. Bewildered in the dead of night upon a dangerous shore; Not knowing where to tread aright I fell to rise no more. On every side the water’s flowed. In vain I strove to save my life; Alas, compelled I bowed, And found a watery grave.
