In affectionate remembrance of John Branton of Easington who died June 12th 1870 aged 57 years. He has gone our lov’d one, Yes he’s gone to range yon deathless shore. He’s fought the fight through Christ he’s won, And now his toils are o’er.

The 1861 census return lists John Branton 47,an agricultural labourer and his wife Estha Amy, age 40, residing down High St. Easington along with 3 daughters, Betsy 9, Ann Maria 8, Catherine 6, and a son Bartholomew 3.
