Inscription reads;
Sacred to the memory of William Bacchus who Departed this life February 12th 1853 aged 60 years. Prepare to meet thy God. In the midst of life we are in death. Also Elizabeth Bacchus wife of the above who departed this life on the 26th January 1862 aged 76 years.

The 1851 census records William Bacchus 58, agricultural labourer and his wife Elizabeth 64, residing at South End.
The 1861 census records Elizabeth Bacchus head, widow 75 residing down High St. with her daughter Sarah Pickering widow, 55 and a lodger Jane Johnson widow 69.
