Centenary of Soldiers Death
Last year in the village of Easington, we held a rededication ceremony of our local war memorial.
This was held due to the fact that two additional names had been omitted from the memorial.
One was a Battle of Britain pilot by the name of Plt. Off. Jack Buchanan, who died in a flying accident in 1941, and is buried locally.
The other name was a Lieut. Francis William Jennings of 3rd Leicester Regiment who was killed on the beach by an exploding mine here at Easington.
The pilots’ grave was in a terrible state and virtually illegible. Funds were raised to have the grave stone completely refurbished in time for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain last year.
The work was carried out by a local stone mason and they did an excellent job.

As a ‘Thank You’ for putting the work his way, he offered to steam clean the grave stone of Lieut. Jennings free of charge in time for the 100-year anniversary of his death on the 26th of March. The work was carried out just recently and I think you will agree with me that they have made a splendid job in time to commemorate this officer.
