Inscription reads;
In memory of John Coates who departed this life the 23rd of October 1817 aged 24 years. O cruel death that would no longer spare, A loving husband and a tender farther dear. Great is the loss to those who’s left behind. But no doubt eternal life doth find. Also Mary the wife of John Coates who departed this life the2(4) of October 1821 aged 25 years.
