Inscription reads;
Sacred to the memory of Frances the wife of Francis Charlton who died May 30th 1860 aged 69 years. O cruel death that would no longer spare. A beloved wife and tender mother dear. Also Francis Charlton who died January 10th 1862 aged 76 years.

The 1851 census records Francis Charlton 65, his wife Frances 60 a shoemaker residing in the Poor Houses, also living with them are three sons Moody 31 a tailor, Thomas 20 a tailor, Mich; Locking Charlton 7 a scholar.
