In memory of Charles Canby of Knottingley, who departed this life the 20th day of March 1838 aged 23 years.
Tho' Boreas blast and Neptunes waves. Have toss'd us to and fro: In spite of both by Gods decree. Were harbour'd here below; Where we now safe at anchors rule, with some part of the fleet, Yet once again we must set sail, Our saviour Christ to meet.
Parish Register: The only entry in the register around that date is - The body of a sailor cast on the shore at Spurn Point 25th March 1838.
